100 years since the foundation of Czechoslovakia: Anniversary year 2018 in the main evening news program of Czech Television
Rybáčková, Nikola ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
This master's thesis focuses on how the Czech Television covered the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia in its main evening news program. It was an important theme of the whole year 2018, it wasn't the only anniversary we commemorated in that year, though. In 2018, eighty years have passed since the signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938 and seventy years since the 1948 Czechoslovak coup d'état. It's also been fifty years since the Prague Spring and the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Last but not least, we celebrated twenty-five years since the founding of the Czech Republic in 1993. All these events are significant milestones in Czech and world history of the twentieth century. Therefore, the thesis analyzes to what extent Czech Television dealt with these events. The aim of the thesis is to get an insight into the coverage of this topic throughout the year 2018 and to find out how much space was provided for each anniversary and what the nature of the posts was.

Hromádka, Michal ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The aim of this work is to compare the two most important commemorations (semicentennial and centennial) organized to commemorate the Easter Rising. The first chapter introduces the concept of collective memory as well as some interpretations of this concept by various authors. The concept of collective memory and memory of space is crucial for this work, because commemorations are analyzed using these two concepts. This chapter also introduces research criteria that are later used to compare commemorations. These categories include the identity of the organizers, the geopolitical situation of the Republic of Ireland prior to commemoration, and the building of memorials and memory sites in connection with the Easter Rising. The following two chapters analyze specific commemorations and compare similarities and differences according to predetermined research criteria. Although there are some similarities between the two commemorations and there are many, these commemorations are totally different from each other, especially because of the consequences. The 1966 commemoration was very controversial, especially because of the speech given by President de Valera on the last day of the official ceremonies. The 2016 commemorations were generally accepted as peaceful, respectful and meaningful, even...

This bachelorʼs thesis focuses on media analysis, specifically the analysis of the newspaper articles of the three most important French newspapers Le Figaro, Le Monde and Libération. The thesis aims to find out how the French press evaluated Franco-German cooperation in January 2013 when the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the Elysee Treaty were going on. The thesis is divided into three chapters. It begins with the description of the process of the birh of Franco-German cooperation. Then it describes the content of the Treaty and celebrations itselfs. Next two chapters apply the quantitative analysis of media on the corpus of 37 articles. This method provides us with the first analytic look into the articles. The third chapter includes deeper content analysis with the help of coding analysis. There are chosen two categories - of time and of evaluation of the current (January 2013) Franco-German cooperation. The thesis sums up that the current...
May 1945in optics of journal Mlada fronta in time-spiral of 65 years
Stoszková, Šárka ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
The thesis "Looking through the lens of the Czech daily newspaper Mlada fronta for 65 years" examines the topic of the liberation of Czechoslovakia in May, 1945. The qualitative content analysis of selected texts available from the newspaper is used to explore the interpretation of the event in Mlada fronta. The thesis has concentrated on the development of attitudes, beliefs, ways of communications and journalistic transformation of media content concerning the liberation event over time. The main objective has been to answer the question as to whether the media portrayal of the event has remained constant or altered over the stated time period and which factors influenced the portrayal. In the conclusion of this thesis we can confirm that the monitored event has been described differently in different time periods respectively, in connection with political progress and the value of democracy in the country. The more totalitarian the regime, the more the newspaper has described freedom through preferred ideology, biased themes, dogmatic posture and offered interpretations that suited the ruling party. This indicates a form of totalitarian hegemony. During periods of greater totalitarianism, the newspaper tends to describe the theme of the freedom completely within that communist ideology. However,...
